Cheetah image. A lightly built big cat with long, comparatively thin legs and small feet, having a tawny coat with solid small spots, white under parts, typical tear stains and a black and white ringed outer tail. They are still widespread in savanna and arid zones, but have a very small gen pool. Cheetahs are specialized in hunting gazelles and springbok, but also take other prey. They try to get within 50 meters of prey, needing cover to hide, and then start to sprint with a speed of up to 110 km/h, but will only chase their prey for about 300 meters. Females have very big home ranges and live solitary, while 1-3 males keep an exclusive territory, defending it against male intruders.
