Hyrax (Rock)

Hyrax (Rock) image. About the size and appearance of a marmot or woodchuck, it has a relatively blunt snout, a black spot on the back and a yellow-brown coarse coat with paler under parts. Rock Hyraxes need rocks or boulders capable of giving shelter to a colony together with tree or bush cover. The whole colony uses well-worn pathways to their grazing grounds, grazing herbs and grass for less than an hour per day. The territorial dominant male often stands guard, sometimes calling with series of far-carrying yelps, ended with guttural grunts.
